I Heart You
And The Lazy Mom’s Applique Technique

Today was a busy day of Valentine’s parties.  First the little one had a playdate with the kids, and then we headed over to the big one’s school for her holiday party.  Joci’s school doesn’t allow for cutesy clothes because they have to wear uniforms, but since Abby wasn’t in school today I decided to whip something up, but not before I played around with the heart hair again!!

This morning, because we had more time to get ready, I decided to do the two-heart do.  (actually both girls got their hair done this way, but I only managed to get a pic of Abby’s)

Since I didn’t get to making her shirt last night, I thought I’d try to throw something together before the playdate.  I had some Steam-a-Seam left over in the craft closet from a project I did for the girls at Christmas.  I had some cute fabric on hand so I cut out some hearts; one big one for the front, and two small ones for the shoulder sleeves.

A little trick that *I* do when trimming the Steam a Seem.  I peel back the backing, slip the fabric in, put it back together, and then trim.  Most people lay their fabric on it, trace it, and then stick the fabric on it.  I find this way to be faster and easier.  But if you like to do it the other way, go for it.  Just remember to follow the directions on the package.

Next, arrange your applique the way you want it.  You’re going to want to steam the fabric, so what I do is lay a piece of fabric OVER the applique, spray it with water, and then hold the iron there for 10-15 seconds.  I suppose you could do it without the fabric on top, but if you had any of the fusible backing sticking out from the sides of your applique, you’d likely get it on your iron.  This way it gets on the top fabric piece instead.

Then your applique is done!  If you’re not in a rush and you’d like to add more of a finishing touch, you can zig-zag around the edges, or sew around them in any way that you’d like to give it more detail.  (I actually prefer this look, but I procrastinated…story of my life)

Here’s Abby and Max modeling.  (remind me to tell you the story of Max someday.)

She was so excited to don her heart wear.  Isn’t that a super easy applique technique?

Well, it’s after 5 and I think the girls are beginning to come down from their sugar high, so I’m going to go make dinner.

Don’t forget about the giveaway that ends tonight!  There haven’t been a whole lot of entries, so it’s anybody’s game.

Wow, that hair looks great! I hope Max got a treat for his modeling endeavor :) Very cute idea for the appliques. Ok, so I suppose I need to get around to doing something like that. We have so many wee ones in the family, I should do SOMETHING!

About Me

Hi, I’m Autumn. Welcome to my blog! I created this website because I have always loved to make things whether it was through crafting, photographing, knitting, sewing, scrapbooking, writing. You name it, I’ve tried it! The problem is, I never stick to one thing. I’m constantly jumping from one hobby to another and back again. There are just so many I enjoy that I can’t help but diversify my interests. I hope that by sharing my creativity with you you’ll be inspired to try something new. Maybe you'll find so many things you are interested in that you also become a fickle hobbyist!
